Instructional Design is the technical term for the design of educational material; it usually entails a blend of copy, layout, and a keen understanding of cross-media learning methods. Oregon Trail, developed at Carleton College, was one of the very first interactive lessons to be delivered via computer, mixing an early version of gaming with informative knowledge. Yes, I experienced this 8-bit wonder first hand in elementary school!
